Story — the trade look

A dark overlay hero, three interior spreads, an author block and the description. For a novel that should look trade-published.

4 of KDP's 5 allowed modules · 6 images from your book · free

Every image below is a render of the layout itself, through the same pipeline that produces the submission files. Each image slot carries a label — "Front cover", "Page 3" — naming what your own book supplies there once you link it. Nothing on this page is a screenshot of a live listing.

1. Standard Image & Dark Text Overlay

The Standard Image & Dark Text Overlay module in the Story — the trade look layout, 1 image slots with labelled placeholders
The 970×600 sheet. Amazon renders it wider on desktop and stacks it on a phone.

The overlay modules put KDP's own text on top of your image, so the image has to leave room for it. A photograph with no quiet area under the text is the most common reason an overlay module comes back unreadable on a phone.

Three square images, each at least 300×300. Used for the three things a reader wants confirmed before buying, not for three variations of the cover.

3. Standard Single Image & Sidebar

The Standard Single Image & Sidebar module in the Story — the trade look layout, 2 image slots with labelled placeholders
The 970×600 sheet. Amazon renders it wider on desktop and stacks it on a phone.

A main image, a sidebar image and a short bulleted list. The bullets are the only place in A+ where a list reads naturally, which is why the specs live here rather than in the body copy.

The 970×600 sheet. Amazon renders it wider on desktop and stacks it on a phone.

Plain text, no image. The one module that can carry a long passage, and the one most often used to repeat the listing description word for word, which wastes it.

Using this layout

In the Book Studio A+ Content Designer this pack is one click: it adds every module, fills each plate from the book you linked, writes the starting copy from the listing, and resolves the palette above into your own brand colours. To build it by hand in A+ Content Manager instead, the tables above give you every module name, slot size and character limit — and the free template maker will export each image at the exact pixels.

The full limits table for all seventeen modules is in the character-limits guide.
