Book Studio — Puzzle Book Maker Software for KDP

109 puzzle generators inside a real editor. Generate a book’s worth of puzzles in one run, then change anything on the page — because a generated puzzle here stays an editable object, not a flat image you have to regenerate to fix.

Free plan, no card — 6 puzzle types and three generations a month, with a watermark on export.

What’s in it

  • 109 puzzle generators

Word searches and crosswords through sudoku, kakuro, nonograms and logic grids, down to tracing and counting pages for early-learning books. Each one is a real generator with its own settings — grid size, difficulty, theme, answer keys — not a template you retype.

  • A canvas, not a template slot

A generated puzzle arrives on the page as the same live objects everything else in the editor is made of: text runs, paths, groups. Resize the grid, retype a clue, change the font, move it to another page.

  • One rendering pipeline

The same code draws a puzzle in your browser preview and in the exported interior PDF. There is no second export renderer to drift out of agreement with what you approved on screen.

  • KDP preflight before export

Page size against your trim, font size against KDP's 7pt interior floor, margins and bleed, image DPI. The check runs before you get a file, so a problem is something you fix in the editor rather than something Amazon tells you about days later.

  • A uniqueness certificate

Every puzzle is normalized and hashed before it is accepted, so no two puzzles in your book are identical in content and none is identical to a puzzle in your other SmartKDP projects.

  • Print-ready exports

Interior PDFs in RGB or CMYK/PDF-X1a, plus fixed-layout EPUB — all three gated behind the same preflight check.

  • Bulk generation

Generate a catalog's worth of puzzles in one run rather than a book at a time. Included from the Publisher plan.

  • The cover and the listing, in the same project

Cover Designer computes the spine from your book's real page count, and the Listing Studio writes the KDP listing from what is actually inside it.

Pages it makes

Every page below was laid out by the same engine and rendered through the same pipeline your exported PDF goes through — these are not mock-ups. Each one is also a free printable, so you can print the exact page before deciding whether the editor is worth paying for.

Edit anything after it’s generated

Most KDP puzzle tools are generators with an export button. You choose a theme and a grid size, press go, and what comes back is finished — a PDF or a flat image. If a clue reads badly, if the grid crowds the page, if the font is wrong for a large-print edition, your only move is to change the settings and generate the whole thing again, losing every other adjustment you had made.

Book Studio does not have that step. A generated puzzle is placed on the canvas as the same node types a hand-drawn shape or a typed heading uses — text runs, paths, groups — so editing one is editing an ordinary object. Double-click a single letter and it selects. Drag the grid, and the answer key that references it keeps its numbering.

That is an architectural property rather than a feature list item: there is only one document model and one renderer, so a generated page and a hand-built page are the same kind of thing all the way through to the PDF. It is also the hardest thing here for a template-based competitor to copy, which is why it leads.

What it will not do

  • It does not guarantee KDP will accept your book. Our preflight rules come from Amazon’s published requirements; Amazon’s review looks at things it has never documented.
  • It does not claim your puzzles are unique in the world. The certificate covers your book and your own SmartKDP catalog, which is the part we can actually verify.
  • Book Copilot — describing a book in a sentence and getting a full plan back — is built but not switched on for every account yet. The pricing page marks it as coming rather than counting it as something you are buying today.
  • It does not research your niche. Use the free Amazon BSR Sales Calculator and keyword expander for that, before you build anything.
  • It does not print or sell your book. You publish through KDP; we hand you the files it asks for.

Work out the numbers first

A puzzle book is a page-count decision before it is a design decision — trim size and page count set your printing cost, your spine width, and the price you have to charge to make anything. All three tools below are free and need no account.

Frequently asked questions

What is Book Studio?

A browser-based editor for building puzzle books you publish on Amazon KDP. You pick a puzzle type, set the theme and difficulty, and it generates and lays out the pages — then you edit them like any other design, page by page, and export a print-ready interior PDF.

Can I edit a puzzle after it has been generated?

Yes, and that is the main thing that separates it from the generators most KDP publishers use. A generated puzzle is not a flat image dropped onto the page — it is the same live objects the rest of the editor is built from. You can resize the grid, retype a single clue, change the font, recolor cells, or drag the whole puzzle to a different page, and none of it requires regenerating the puzzle underneath.

How many puzzle types are there?

109 at the time of writing, grouped into word puzzles, word-search variants, number and logic puzzles, mazes and paths, arithmetic practice, early-learning pages, and activity and keepsake pages. 6 of them are free forever; the rest are included from the Creator plan. New types are added as their generators land, and a subscription covers them as they arrive.

Will the exported PDF match what I see on screen?

It is drawn by the same code. The puzzle engine and the canvas share one rendering pipeline, so the browser preview and the exported page come from the same instructions rather than from two renderers kept in sync by hand. Bleed is the one intended difference: the export carries it and the on-screen page does not show it as printed area.

What does the KDP preflight check actually check?

Page size against the trim you chose, font size against KDP's 7pt interior floor, margins and bleed, and image DPI. Those are the checks our own rules cover, drawn from Amazon's published requirements. It is not a guarantee of acceptance — Amazon's review looks at things it has never documented — but it catches the mechanical failures that account for most rejected interiors.

What does the uniqueness certificate mean, exactly?

That no two puzzles in your book are identical in content, and that none is identical to a puzzle in your other SmartKDP projects. It is deliberately not a claim that a puzzle is unique in the world — nobody can verify that, and a certificate that says so would be worth nothing. Puzzles are normalized for symmetry and hashed before they are accepted, and a collision is retried with a new seed.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it does not expire. The free plan gives you 6 puzzle types, three generations a month and three projects, with the whole editor available — exports carry a watermark. It is meant for finding out whether the editor suits you before you pay for it, not as a trial that runs out.

What does it cost?

The Creator plan, from $19 a month, includes every puzzle type, watermark-free export and KDP preflight. Higher plans raise the generation and project ceilings and add bulk generation. Your country's price is shown at checkout, and the free KDP calculators and generators stay free and unlimited regardless.

Build the book, not just the puzzles

Generate a catalog's worth of pages in one run, edit any of them afterwards, and export an interior that has already been checked against KDP's requirements.

Included from the Creator plan at $19/month, with every puzzle type and watermark-free export. The free plan never expires. Your country’s price is shown at checkout.
