About SmartKDP

What this is

SmartKDP is a toolkit for people who self-publish on Amazon KDP. One half is free and needs no account: 33 calculators and generators, a KDP glossary of 30 terms, reference guides, 109 printable puzzle pages, and 52 articles. The other half is paid: Book Studio, a real editor for the puzzle and low-content books you publish, plus Listing Studio and Research Studio around it.

The free tools are not a trial of the paid ones. They answer questions publishers have whether or not they ever open an editor — what a book costs to print, what royalty a price yields, how wide a cover has to be — and they will keep working without an account.

Where the numbers come from

Every printing cost, royalty and cover dimension on this site is computed from KDP's own published rate tables, not transcribed from a blog post and not estimated. The calculators, the guides and the homepage all work from the same figures, which is why the number on a guide page and the number the calculator returns for the same book always match.

Each rate table carries the date it was last checked against KDP, and the pages built from it show that date. When KDP changes a rate, those pages change with it rather than quietly going stale.

• A derived number is labelled as derived. Where KDP does not publish an exact figure for a trim size, the pages say the number is an estimate rather than presenting it as a quoted rate.
• We do not invent figures Amazon does not publish. Amazon publishes no search volume, so the free keyword tools show what Amazon's own suggestions reveal — how often a phrase appeared, where it ranked — not a made-up volume score. Where we do estimate, the estimate is shown as a range, with a page that explains how to read it: see the methodology.
• Preflight is a real check, not a badge.Exports are validated against KDP's interior and cover requirements before you get the file, and a failure tells you which check failed rather than refusing generically.

Who publishes this

SmartKDP is published by SmartKDP, Inc., a Delaware C corporation. That entity operates the service and is the party named in the terms, the privacy policy and every other document under Legal. Purchases are sold to you by Lemon Squeezy, LLC as our merchant of record — see Terms for what that means.
