Generating names…
How it works
Genre isn't just a label here — it filters the name pool by style traits, so a Fantasy pick and a Nonfiction pick draw from genuinely different parts of the pool:
region → name pool + genre → style tags → filtered first/last name pool → random pair
Every batch shuffles the first-name and last-name pools independently before pairing them, so you get real variety instead of a fixed set of pre-paired combinations.
How does the generator pick genre-appropriate names?
Every name in our pool is tagged with a small set of style traits (elegant, gritty, whimsical, mystical, and so on). Each genre is a preset filter over those traits, so a Thriller pick favors punchy, authoritative names while a Romance pick favors warmer, more elegant ones — without needing a separate name list per genre.
What does the KDP region selector do?
It swaps in a name pool that fits that marketplace: Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Japan each draw from their own hand-curated first and last names, while US/UK/Canada/Australia share one English pool. Your Amazon search link updates to match, too — a Germany pick searches amazon.de instead of amazon.com.
Does the Amazon search link check if a pen name is taken?
It's a real search link, not a trademark or registry check — it opens the selected marketplace's Books department for that exact name so you can see if it's already in use by another author. Treat it as a fast first pass, not a legal clearance.
Can I legally publish on Amazon KDP under a pen name?
Yes — KDP explicitly supports publishing under a pseudonym. Your legal name and tax information still go on your KDP account behind the scenes; only your public author name changes.
Is anything I generate or favorite saved anywhere?
No. Generation, copying, and your shortlist all happen entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server, and refreshing the page clears your shortlist.
What does the gender lean option actually control?
It narrows which first names are eligible to be picked — it's a style lean, not a rule. "No preference" mixes feminine, masculine, and neutral names together.
Why do I get different names each time I generate?
Names are sampled randomly from the filtered pool every time, so results vary. Use the regenerate button on a single card to reroll just that one name, or the star icon to save names you like to a shortlist first.
