KDP A+ content character limits

Every field of every A+ module KDP authors can use, with its limit and where that number comes from. 17 modules, 5 of which you may publish at once.

A+ Content Manager enforces a limit on every text field and a minimum on every image, and refuses anything past them rather than trimming it for you. The awkward part is that KDP publishes only some of these numbers. The rest are Seller Central's, which the same form enforces on the KDP path, but which KDP has never written down for authors.

So every figure below is labelled. KDP says means the number is on a KDP help page. Provisional (Seller Central figure) means it is the figure the form enforces and the industry quotes, and we are telling you that rather than dressing it up. A number with no provenance is a guess someone is asking you to trust.

The limits that apply everywhere

  • 5 modules per submission on the KDP path (Basic set).
  • 100 characters of alt text per image — KDP says.
  • 2 MB per image file, JPG or PNG, RGB only — KDP says.
  • Text must stay readable at a 360 px phone width; below about 8 px of cap height it is not.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters can an A+ headline be?

It depends on the module. Most Basic modules take a headline of around 70 characters and a body of around 300, but the Standard Text and Product Description Text modules take far more, and the Comparison Chart counts every column heading separately. The table on this page gives the figure for each field of each module.

Are these limits published by KDP?

Some of them. KDP publishes the image minimums for a handful of modules and the alt-text limit; most of the text-field limits are Seller Central's figures, which A+ Content Manager enforces but KDP has never published for the KDP path. Every row here says which kind of figure it is, and nothing on this page is worded as “KDP says” unless KDP does.

How many A+ modules can a book have?

KDP's A+ Content allows five modules from the Basic set per submission. Seller Central's A+ allows seven modules per submission — an unverified figure, and not available on the KDP path.

What happens if I go over a limit?

A+ Content Manager refuses the field — it will not truncate for you. That is why the counters matter before you paste: a description written to 400 characters for a 300-character field has to be rewritten in the form, where you cannot see the rest of the module.

Do the limits count characters or bytes?

Characters. An accented letter counts once, and so does an emoji — though emoji in A+ copy are their own problem and the guidelines discourage them.
