Free printable round rhyme

Round Rhyme is a phonics matching puzzle. Eight words sit in stars around a ring, and eight partner words sit inside the circle. Kids draw a line from each inner word to the star that rhymes with it — jar with car, night with light, bump with jump, and so on. Early readers and kindergarten groups like the picture of a star wheel more than a two-column word list.

This page offers a high-resolution PNG sized for a 6x9 inch sheet, plus a solution that already draws the rhyme lines. There is no signup. Download the images and print them whenever you want a short rhyming activity.

How to play

  1. Pick a word inside the circle, such as CAR or WISH.
  2. Say it out loud, then scan the eight stars for a word that rhymes with it.
  3. Draw a line from the inner word to that star; continue until every pair is connected.
  4. Compare your lines with the answer-key image if you want to check a match.

Print at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper so the star ring stays large enough to draw rhyme lines without crowding.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Round Rhyme answer key?

A second image on this page reprints the star wheel with the rhyme lines already drawn. Use it to check a finished page or to help a child who is stuck on one pair without solving the rest.

Is this Round Rhyme printable free?

Yes. The puzzle and the answer key are free PNG downloads with no signup. Print them for home reading time or a small-group literacy center as often as you need.

Who is Round Rhyme for?

It fits kindergarten and first-grade readers who can sound out short words and hear ending sounds. An adult can read the words aloud for children who recognize rhymes by ear but are not yet independent readers.

How should I print this so the lines stay easy to draw?

Print at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper in portrait. Avoid shrink-to-fit, which crowds the inner words. A pencil or thin marker makes cleaner rhyme lines than a crayon on this layout.
