Why this order? **Title and cover mismatches** and **banned claim language** are high-frequency, high-visibility failures. ## Step 0 — Read what KDP actually said

Open the email, Bookshelf status, or Quality Notifications text and extract:

## Step 1 — Metadata match (the silent rejection)

KDP’s metadata guidelines: the title field is **only the actual title as it appears on the cover**. Cover **title, subtitle, author, and series** should match the corresponding setup fields. Print title must appear on the cover (spine or front) and match setup.

Check:

1. Cover text vs KDP title/subtitle/author/series—character for character where it matters.
2. Interior title page vs setup (if the manuscript shows a title).
3. Series name not stuffed with book titles or promo language.
4. Title + subtitle **together fewer than 200 characters**.

## Step 2 — Prohibited claims in title, subtitle, keywords

Strip these even if “everyone else does it” and even if the claim feels true:

## Step 3 — Description-specific bans

## Step 4 — HTML and character length

Supported description HTML is a **small whitelist** (pairs of tags; learn the live list on KDP’s description help). Unsupported structures (`div`, `span`, links, images, tables, higher heading levels) are common paste accidents from Word or web builders.

Also check:

- **Character budget** for the description field—HTML tags count toward the published limit
- Broken or unclosed tags

1. Remove rank, promo, other-author, and unrelated phrases
2. Prefer accurate 2–3 word phrases for **this** book
3. Do not re-type the full title into every box
